On-Shoring Trend

According to the Wall Street Journal, major US manufacturing companies such as Caterpiller and General Electric are reversing the trend of off-shoring by bringing manufacturing capacity back to the U.S. and by sourcing more programs to domestic suppliers.

The trend, known as onshoring or reshoring, is gaining momentum thanks to a weak U.S. dollar and the hidden costs and risks associated with long supply chains. When you consider the costs and complexities of the inventory and lead times, making a case for production in places like China becomes much more difficult.
